This is as great place to do a drive-by whenever you get the chance. Birds of all kinds have really taken to the newly formed wetlands, adjoining pond and farm field in the distance. Depending on the season, you never know what you’ll find, though there are some regular species that are fond of the area.
Stoughton Road Ponds
This little wetland is gaining a big name for its outstanding variety of bird species throughout the year.

Getting there:
First off, Google Maps has the place listed as “150 Crocker Road.” So trust the map location on this page…just not the name. It’ll take you to the right place. If your coming from the Slipper Rock I-79 exit, travel east on New Castle Road and look for Stoughton Road on your right about 1/ 4 mile before you get to the Birdwatchers Store. If your coming from the west, pass BWS on your right and look for Stoughton Rd. on your left. Either way, follow Stoughton Rd. for about 1/2 a mile to a parking area on your right. Then grab your binoculars and start looking!
Expect to see:
American Kestrels, Spotted Sandpipers (in season), Northern Mockingbirds, Red-tailed Hawks, Common Ravens (occasionally), Northern Harriers (in season), and Short-eared Owls (in season.)
These are just some of the highlights. There’s a whole lot more to see here, so you won’t be disappointed.
