This area is a wonderful site for birding throughout the year. It feels quite isolated even though it’s a stone’s throw from downtown Slippery Rock. As a bottom land it does collect a lot of water when it rains, so please bring appropriate footwear. Also, the dirt parking lot is quite rutted. But all that is a small price to pay for such a beautiful bird rich set of trails!
Miller Woods Nature Preserve
This site is just a short walk away from Wolf Creek Narrows across an old stone. (Please be mindful of traffic!) It provide a lovely and meandering walk through Wolf Creek’s bottomlands with many species on display year ’round.

Getting there:
To find the trail take interstate 79 to the Slippery Rock exit and follow 108 to Slippery Rock. Turn left at the traffic light (north main street), then take the next left (Water Street) and drive about 2 miles to the bridge over Wolf Creek.
The parking is located at the trail head for Miller Woods. Walk back across the bridge to find the trail head for Wolf Creek Narrows.
Expect to see:
Spring/ Summer: Blackburnian, yellow, yellow-rumped, bay-breasted and hooded warblers, Acadian, great-crested and willow flycatchers, solitary sandpipers and Louisiana waterthrush.
Fall/Winter: Golden-crowned kinglets, white and (sometimes) red-breasted nuthatches, bald eagles, white-throated sparrows, five species of woodpeckers and more.
